Role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings in Adults Presenting with New-Onset Seizures

Background: New-onset seizure can be potential life threatening condition. It raises the suspicion of intracranial abnormality or a primary epilepsy .These are mostly diagnosed and differentiated clinically, however diagnostic imaging has important role in evaluating cause . Previously studies done on neuroimaging seizures have focused assessment children adults acute emergency this study new onset .Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is readily available tertiary care hospitals these days modality for causes new-onset adults. Aims Objectives: The purpose was to discuss magnetic resonance finding adult patients presenting with if MRI established patient's Methods: This prospective cross sectional 330 above age 18 year who presented from May 2020 April 2021. These were referred Radiology department Hayatabad Medical Complex evaluate find out seizure. brain performed 1.5T machine images independently reviewed by two consultant Radiologists. findings summarized categorized into database. Results: In our underwent within 48 hours mean 47 yrs determined 139 (42.1%) while 191(57.9%) normal.. most common encephalomalacia gliosis related previous trauma ,chronic infarcts surgery ( 38.1%),primary/metastatic tumour (24.4%), infectious encephalitis meningitis(15.8 %), venous sinus thrombosis (8.6%), PRESS(7.2%) vascular malformation(5.7%) less findings, Patients focal had higher proportion potentially epileptogenic lesions (64.7%) compared those generalized (10.8%) uncertain type (24.6%) Conclusion: emphasizes importance resonanace its usefulness determining helps planning treatment strategy.
